It was an emotional Saturday afternoon at Douglas Eyre for players and fans alike, as Old Parmerterians bid a fitting farewell to club legend James Canavan, who will make the transfer to Up North FC in the Summer for an undisclosed fee. Understandably, the occasion seemed to briefly get the better of Captain-for-the-day Canavan, who forgot how a coin toss worked. Nevertheless, ends were finally decided, the players (including one or two of the opposition) wiped away their tears, and battle commenced.

Despite coin toss shenanigans, it was Parms who settled quicker. Some composed football at the back sparked similar, deliberate moves further forward, as Matt, Dom and Emmanuel probed the Old Ignatian defence. After a few close calls a cross from Dom found it's way to Matt at the far post who finished from close range. The half continued with more Parms dominance, but some good saves and last ditch defending from the away side kept the game to 1-0 at half time.

Parms continued to dominate in the second half, but against the run of play Ignatian found an undeserved equaliser, a perfectly placed cross was headed home from close range. However, Parms didn't let their heads drop and continued to press for another goal, which came after Dom's corner found Nicho who powered his header past a helpless keeper. With Ignatian tiring and searching for an equaliser, the floodgates began to open when Dicey raced through to finish one-on-one for a third. A fourth goal was added when a cross from Dom found Matt free in the area, who, to put it generously, finished at the second attempt.

Then, there was the moment that will live long in the memory, Canavan left the hallowed Douglas Eyre 3G for the last time to rapturous applause from the Parms faithful, allowed back into the stadium for the first time this season. The fans wondered if they would ever see the likes of the beloved right back grace the turf again. These questions were answered when it seemed like the man himself returned to the pitch 5 minutes later. Was it a mirage? A dream? Or an injury to Dom meaning the rolling subs rule was put to use? No one can truly know.

Thankfully, a real piece of quality brought everyone back to their senses. Emmanuel scored the games best goal, flicking over a defender's tackle before finding the bottom left corner from 20 yards.

A deserved win, which could have easily been more. The defence again deserve credit for setting the tone, and it was a great performance from the whole team. On to Latymer for the last game of the season.
