Travelling to the ground on Saturday, we all felt a little apprehensive. Our manager, turn goal scoring machine, was injured at training on Thursday and with that, our hope of getting a result dwindled. We persevered and arrived in good time, warmed up as a team and practiced some finishing.
The two teams were evenly matched, but they got the breakthrough after we failed to clear our lines after three attempts. Minutes later, Josh De Bruyne Christian scored directly from a free kick to level the game up. 1-1 going into the break.
The opposition took the lead again in the second half, but we responded well when Christian made some space for himself in the box and finished sweetly. 2-2. Soon after, Josh put in another great ball from a free kick and Benji rose highest and sent the ball goalwards. Dan was alert to the opportunity and smashed home from 10 centimetres. He doesn’t miss those!
Martin made some changes (with the manager’s blessing of course) to solidify the team and we held on to take the 3 points.
Game two was there for the taking too, but a number of strange decisions cost us badly. Not to go into too much detail, but there were three penalties given, two for them, one for us. They scored one of theirs and Dan made a great save for their second. For our penalty, we passed the ball to the keeper! We scored at the beginning of the second half... for them! All in all it fell apart a bit, but we still played well. Their three goals were all fairly random and we missed a bagful of chances.
3 points out of a possible 6 was a good result against a decent team. Massive thank you to Christian, Dan, Zack and Benji for helping out today.
