Just to say on behalf of the club and 1st team congratulations to Casca Hoy
and his wife Deina on the birth of their son Asa last Thursday. Weighing in at
6lb he is a lightweight but both are overjoyed and hopefully we will get a look
at him soon.
Lets start with 2 teams that reached the finals of cups. The 5ths went up to
Old Owens in the Old Boys cup where we have struggled in recent years to get a fair result and this
time the team made no mistake with a very high quality performance that
eventually overwhelmed the home side. 1-1 at half time with an unfortunate own
goal conceded, the team then went on the rampage and scored 3 times and also hit
the post 3 times as well. Mike Morgan added another 2 goals to his total but the
whole team can be proud of their performance that had manager Colin Staines
purring, and he doesnt do that too often! The second final was down to the 7th
team who managed to overcome another Actonians side 3-0 to reach the AFA final,
a second final in successive weeks. 1-0 up at half time they dominated most of
the second half to restrict Actonians to half chances before killing the game
off with a couple of goals from Mark Warner and one from Jeff Baah-Williams.
Again another excellent display against a strong SAL club to confirm our
improvement in the clubs fortunes.
Back to the top of the club and the 1st team took another stride towards
another cup final with an easy win over Shene Old Grammarians who play 3
divisions lower. 2-0 up at half time with goals from Lewis Jones and a Scholsy
penalty, Sean Dardis wrapped up the win when he lobbed the keeper from outside
the box. Could have and should have been more but the team seemed to play in
second gear for most of the game. They will need to raise it more this week in
the next round against HAC who hammered nine goals past Danes in the same cup.
The 2nds without many players due to injury and holidays found no problem
in overcoming a weak Wood Green side by scoring twelve times. Dave Stevens,
captain for the day, took his total to 31 for the season with six goals and Matt
Pinner chipped in with a hattrick. A big difference from the opposition of the
past 2 games but it puts them into a quarter final tie this week against
Enfield. The 3rds continued their good form with a comfortable win over Enfield
Old Grammarians to move themselves into 6th place. Goals from Mark Jones and
Paul Isles secured a win where they were never in trouble. Missing a few players
through unavailability it shows that they are definitely on the up. The 4ths
were 1-1 at half time against Meadonians and not really looking lethal in front
of goal but it all changed in the second half with a couple of substitutions as
they scored 7 times with Chris Bird scoring 4 times to take his tally to 26 for
the season. One of their goals was praised by the referee for the football
played in the build up. This week sees them play their semi final of the OB cup
at home to Salesians.
The 6ths found the traffic hard going on their trip to Camdenians and it
didnt get better when they arrived as they found themselves up against a strong
side and their own home grown referee. Suffice to say that they were not going
to get anything out of the game and so it proved. The 8ths had much the better
of the game at Enfield but couldnt keep the home side out and so finished with a
3-3 draw. Michael Butterworth added a couple and captain Shaun Crowe managed to
get on the scoresheet. It leaves them in 4th spot but still within touching
distance of the leaders UCL whom they play away this week. Looks like a 6
pointer game. The 9ths and newly formed 10th team locked horns in an
entertaining game that had lots of good football and confirmed the growing
numbers of players wanting to join the club. Hassan Erdogan led the way with two
and new comer Delroy Donaldson also added two. Adam Kazaam scored twice for the
10ths. I am now looking for someone to run the 10ths to ensure we maintain good
standards of organisation. If anyone is interested let me know. Finally the A
Vets went to Leaders Runwell with a depleted side which meant we really couldnt
compete especially in the second half where we faded away being only 1-0 down at
half time. Still looking for more high quality Vets wherever they are.
It was nice to see Timmy Warden down the club on Saturday having left
Maidstone. I dont know if he will find another job in non league football but he
is more than welcome back at the club.
Team performances and goalscorers
in the club are now available from the front page menu of our website or follow this link:

-
CLUB SUPPER / ANNUAL DINNER We are looking at Friday 21 May at Leyton Orient
FC in the new West Stand. Tickets will be around £15 and we are looking for
a good turnout from the whole of the club. So can you make sure you keep
this date free so we can get well over 100 at least to this event. Tickets
will be issued in due course
- We have a number of young players aged
between 16 and 18 who are looking for employment either as trainees or
apprentices. If you have your own business or know through your job of
vacancies then please let me know.
- The Amateur Football Combination
are now recognised as a Respect League. This is an initiative launched by the FA to
increase sportsmanship and cut out gamesmanship, cheating and bad behaviour.
As a club we will be asking captains to get all players to sign up to this
by signing a team list, having read the terms of reference. These will be
posted on our website this week and handed out to each team member. Referees
will also be briefing both teams before the game on what he or she expects
during the game. So please support this scheme as it will make playing
football much more enjoyable for all concerned.
There are a number of fines owed to
the club for bookings received, can the captains collect them and forward them
to me:
