The 1st team controlled the game against
Hale End and should have had many more goals if their sharpshooters had been in
form. However despite their dominance defensive errors continued to let them
back into the game until near the end the game was won by a superb strike
by "scholsy" who curled the ball with the outside of the boot into the far
corner, a fine shot to watch as I was right behind it. A tighter defence and
hopefully things look promising for the season. Onto the seconds who comfortably
won their game against Beals despite the closeness of the result. New player
Nick Coles got a couple and could have had a few more but the football was good
and the team play is starting to emerge. The thirds also had a good showing
against William Fitt but couldnt score and so fell to 3 late strikes when legs
were tiring. Again the football was good which seems to be a familiar theme at
the top end of the club. Despite athe defeat it was a very encouraging
performance from the team. Finally the B Vets played Jekyll and Hyde this week
going in 4-0 at half time and then being clawed back in the second half by West
Essex who secured the draw. Arnie Howell managed a hattrick but a tightening of
the defence needs to be addressed if the season is to be fruitful. Still it was
a good workout for all the players.
For those players who have yet to surface
if you want to get noticed or move up the sides then you need to get over to
training on a Tuesday in August. We switch to Thursday in September but we hope
to have sorted out most of the teams by then so now is the time.
- Thanks to Glen Woolf who has
secured a sizeable amount of sponsorship from his company which helps the
club enormously especially with the large sums being spent on new kit. If
anyone else can help in this way then let me know now.
- Rule changes for this season mean
that subs will now be collected before the game as we have to pay refs
beforehand and also it avoids players who leave in a hurry forgetting to pay
their subs!
- FOR THIS SEASON, we will be
looking for players to join the club who are RELIABLE above all else. So whovever
you bring to the club make sure they know what it costs and what is expected
of them as a club member.
- WE also need at least one
goalkeeper who is of a decent standard to play at least 3rd team level, if
you know of someone who fits the bill, let me know.
- Dads, Grandads and expectant
fathers, Congratulations to Ian Murray on becoming a father for the first
time, John Cowen on becoming a grandfather and Casca Hoy and Deana who are
expecting their first child in February. Looks like the OP stork has been
busy these last few months!
There are a number of fines owed to
the club for bookings received, can the captains collect them and forward them
to me:
