In summary the 1sts take a giant stride towards their title challenge, the
seconds take 4 points from their difficult double header and the 4ths play
poorly and lose OB Cup final. The 1st team went to second placed Meadonians and
came away with a well deserved win that should have been by many more as they
overcame Meads more convincingly than the scoreline suggests. Pleanty of chances
on offer but not taken meant that Big Tommy in goal had to produce a world class
save to keep Meads out and so give us the platform for Jay Abberley to score
from 20 yards to win the game. It was an excellent performance only dented by
the lack of goals but it does give the team the impetus to make a serious title
challenge with 7 games still to play. It will probably come down to the games
against Albanian at the start of May. The second team had their second of four
double headers against second in the table Magdelanians and it proved a tough
one as they did enough to take all 3 points in the first game but just didnt
have enough to get the all important goal in the second one. It was still a good
return bearing in mind there are still many games to be played and their title
hopes are still very much alive.
The 3rds showed just how much they have improved as they reversed the heavy
defeat against Oakhill at the start of the season with a 3-1 win. Again the team
performed well and despite missing a couple of players who went up to the
seconds they still had enough to beat 3rd placed Oakhill comfortably. The 4ths
went to their cup final in high hopes as they had beaten Owens quite heavily
earlier in the season. However the couldnt take the chances that were on offer
early on and hit the bar twice before Owens took control of the game and then
scored as we pushed forward. They still have hopes of a league title so
hopefully they can pull together and focus on that. The 5ths continued to put
pressure on leaders Ravenscroft with another fine win although they did it the
hard way. Missing several clear chances they allowed Davenant a 1-0 half time
lead which was completely against the run of play. Second half saw clinical
finishing at last to a relieved Colin Staines on the touchline who lost a few
more of those grey hairs in the process. Nothing like that for Paul Thomas whose
team played well and easily controlled the game at Beals with Ben Elmes
contributing a 30 yard screamer into the top corner to round of a good afternoon
for the whole team. They currently lie in 4th spot. The 7ths had another of
those double headers at Southgate and took both games without too much
difficulty. Joe Craddock scored another 2 goals from penalties to take his tally
to 16 which for a central defender is quite a performance. The 8ths for once
drew a blank in front of goal which may deal a vital blow to title ambitions.
For a day where there were no less than 3 goalless draws I can only put it down
to bumpy pitches and poor control! The 9ths had another good team performance
but just couldnt do enough to get something from their game against KICC but
without a regular keeper they are still performing well. Something to mention
that Bruce Smith scored from a corner and at the age of 58 that must be a club
record, anyone else want to disagree?
The Vets A went to Hendersons with a bare 11 only to be confronted by a 10
man home team. Anyway with an advantage we failed to score as 5 goal attempts
went begging. It was left till the second half when they had 11 players that we
scored twice in the last 20 minutes to take 3 valuable points in our quest to
avoid relegation. The B Vets by contrast failed to score for the second game
running and ended the season in 3rd place after 2 goalless draws which will
probably have stopped them getting promotion.

- Cup
finals double headers and midweek games: So you know there are no subs
charged for cup finals. The subs can be used for travel requirements or a
drink afterwards. Midweek games full subs are charged and double headers ALL
the players involved pay subs. If 17 players or more are used then they all
contribute. You can change as many players as you like between the games. In
double headers each game is of 60 minutes and each side pays the referee
once.
- Cup
