The club celebrated its first piece of silverware this week in the shape of
the AFA Junior Novets Cup which was won by the 7th team as they overcome
Polytechnic 5-3. It was a game that was really more comfortable than the score
suggest at the 7ths raced into a 2 goal lead before being pegged back by 2
penalties. Not to be put off they regained their two goal lead by half time to
lead 4-2. A tighter second hald saw them score a 5th goal before Poly scored a
late goal to make the scoreline more respectable. Jeff williams-Baah was the
goal hero with a hattrick which I am not sure when the last was scored in a
final but it was possibly as far back as 1979. So well done Jeff and well done
to Norman and his team for a great achievement. They are still in the hunt for
another cup this week as they play Parkonians in the Old Boys cup final, we wish
them well. Back to the top end of the club and the 1st team celebrated a second
cup final as they overcame a stubborn Suttonians side to reach the final of the
London Old Boys Cup. The last time the 1st team reached 2 finals in a season is
also far back as possibly 1981 so this is another milestone. In the game Sutts
took the lead in the second half in a game which they tried to stop us playing
and succeeded. It looked at that point as though we wouldnt get back into the
game but with 10 minutes to go Scholsy sent in a long cross from the left and
Warren Coborne headed home the equaliser. 5 minutes into extra time we took the
lead through Lewis Jones and held out comfortably to get through. Well
done to Casa and the team for the achievement but both finals will be tough so
lets hope they can pull off a rare cup double at this level. The seconds found
their luck has run out as they fell at the semi final stage for the second week
running. 1-0 up at Beals they had 2 goals ruled out for offside which could have
killed the game. Instead Beals came back and took the game to extra time where
they went ahead 2-1 early in extra time and with the team chasing the equaliser
scored 2 late goals to give the game a flattering scoreline. Lets hope they end
the season with something to show for their great efforts this year. The 3rds
had to work hard for their win over bottom team Buckwellians. On a lively pitch
it was hard to make the football flow but we did create the lions share of
chances and it was only a matter of time before we scored and put the game out
of their reach. The 4ths went to Charterhouse School with a bare 11 due to
cryoffs and players missing and they came unstuck in a game where they would
normally be expected to win. It is a shame but now they can concentrate on the
league with a cup final to come so all is not lost for them. The 5ths should
have won comfortably but because of a lack of clinical finishing they had to dig
out a win which they did well in the circumstances. Defensively they held firm
in the second half to keep out any threat from Edmontonians. The 6ths also had
to work hard for their win as they overcame Leyton County 3-1. A first half lead
of 2-0 was pegged back in the second half before Jamie Howell wrapped up the win
with a 3rd goal late on.
The 8ths bounced back from their defeat of the previous week to claim a
narrow win at Edmontonians to lift their spirits and keep them in touch with the
leaders in their division. Lets hope they can turn the tables at UCL this week
in a game they need to get something from. The 9ths put on a very good
performance against William Fitt Vets. It was a game where passing was all
important and we did match them for long spells but they had better finishers
which gave them the win. Still something for the team to be proud of. The 10ths
by way of a contrast showed very little team spirit and team play and were
beaten by a fairly ordinary side when really they could have done better.
Something they need to work on for this weeks game. The A Vets had only their
second league win of the season but it was a very important one against second
placed Writtle and it moves them ahead of Herongate in the table. Still the
opportunity for them to stay up if they keep battling as they did in this game.
The B Vets went into this top of the table clash in high confidence but found
themselves 3-0 down at half time. A couple of strikes from Ken Ballard brought
them back into the game but they couldnt get that extra goal or 2 to give them
something from the game. Realistically they cant win the title but have a good
chance of getting promotion.

weekly basis
- Cup
finals double headers and midweek games: So you know there are no subs
charged for cup finals. The subs can be used for travel requirements or a
drink afterwards. Midweek games full subs are charged and double headers ALL
the players involved pay subs. If 17 players or more are used then they all
contribute. You can change as many players as you like between the games. In
double headers each game is of 60 minutes and each side pays the referee
once.
- Cup
Finals, the dress code is either jacket and tie or smart casual or clubwear
such as Polo Shirts. If you require club ties they are £10 each from me.
