In summary A great cup win for the 1sts as they retain the Old Boys senior
cup. 2nds and 4ths claim win doubles in their title quests and the 7ths make it
to a record 3rd final. The 5ths hit seven but the 8ths hit nine in a goal fest
of a week for the club. Chris Bird hits seven and Michael Butterworth five as
the sharp shooters have their day too. It was a great day for the club
considering the number of tough games for all the teams and the quantity. Well
done to everyone.
Congratulations to the 1st team as they battled to hold onto the Old Boys
Senior Cup, a trophy they won for the first time last year. It was a scrappy
game but we managed to get ahead 10 minutes before half time when Robbie Carroll
was fouled in the box and Scholsy converted the penalty. Not long after half
time a long through ball found Lewis Jones who got past two defenders and hooked
the ball past the keeper for 2-0. It looked good for a while till we conceded a
penalty for handball and then it was backs to the wall for the rest of the game
as they piled on the pressure. Excellent performances from Tommy in goal and
Sarg at the centre of defence but although the performance wasnt great the
result was all that mattered. Well done lads and lets start that run for the
title.
The second team did their title chances no harm with a couple of thumping
wins against lowly Egbertians. Sam Bird was the goal hero in the first game and
Dave Stevens in the second. It was a welcome 6 points but the big games are
still to come against Albanian after easter. The 3rds made hard work of beating
Buckwellians in their game. Mark Jones scored another 2 to get him to double
figures but the game was marred by a serious injury to their keeper who suffered
a suspected broken ankle. The 4ths bounced back from their woes of the 2
previous weeks turning up with about 19 players for their double header. It
worked well as firstly they demolished UCL 8-0 in the first game with Chris Bird
scoring seven of them, that is some sort of record I would imagine for a 60
minutes game. They then followed it up with a 3-1 win in the second game to get
all six points and a climb up the table to third place. The 5ths kept up their
hopes of a title win with a thumping 7-0 win at Mill Hill County. Carl Staines
grabbed a hattrick and the MOM but it was spoilt by not having any changing
rooms or showers due to someone from the council failing to turn up and open up.
Still at least we took out our frustration on the opposition! The 6ths had a
difficult 2 games against unbeaten UCL. Both games were tight affairs and the
first one ended in a narrow defeat whilst the in the second game we held it
together better to frustrate them and get a point from the game this was despite
losing the goalie Adam Hodges for this game. They were not happy with a
disallowed penalty but sometimes we do get the breaks! The 7ths marched into a
third final, this time in the shape of the LOB cup. 1-0 up after 5 minutes the
team thought it would be easy and relaxed somewhat too much and then allowed
Ignatians back into the game. Ashley Leat pulled off a series of saves before
the second goal settled everyone and the team eased through the remainder of the
game.
The 8ths do seem to have found a new lease of life and in particular Michael
Butterworth who after scoring 4 goals last week followed it up with 5 against
Minchendenians in a 9-1 rout. The team still lies in 3rd spot with UCL holding
the points in the bag but they do still have a genuine chance of the title if
they can keep this run going. Onto the 9ths and this time the team found the
going a bit tougher at Aldenhamians although we still played some good football.
Their referee was rather generous to them in some of the decisions which made
the scoreline more flattering than it should have been. The 10ths went to
Manorians and didnt really perform as well as they have done in recent weeks
with the passing which meant that they were always under pressure and so lost
heavily. Onto the Vets and the A team really should have got something from the
game against Dunmow but couldnt really create enough opportunities and take
those that were on offer. John Day made a good penalty save to keep us in the
game but they still lack that cutting edge up front. And the B Vets too found
that scoring goals wasnt that easy as they played out a rare goaless draw
against Hale End. Not much to say except chances when they did come were not
taken. Finally the over 45s progressed to the quarter finals after a convincing
3-1 win over May & Baker. 3-0 up at half time with the wind we defended
resolutely in the second half only allowing them to score with the very final
kick of the game. A very good all round good performance with the quarter final
away to either Rutland or Herongate, the date to be confirmed.
If any team wants to read more about themselves then someone from the team
needs to email me Saturday night with the info and I will gladly incorporate it
into this sheet.

weekly basis
- Cup
finals double headers and midweek games: So you know there are no subs
charged for cup finals. The subs can be used for travel requirements or a
drink afterwards. Midweek games full subs are charged and double headers ALL
the players involved pay subs. If 17 players or more are used then they all
contribute. You can change as many players as you like between the games. In
double headers each game is of 60 minutes and each side pays the referee
once.
- Cup
Finals, the dress code is either jacket and tie or smart casual or clubwear
such as Polo Shirts. If you require club ties they are £10 each from me.
- CLUB SUPPER / ANNUAL DINNER We are looking at Friday
14 May at Leyton Orient
FC in the new West Stand. Tickets will be around £15 and we are looking for
