Not as good as the previous week but
still some impressive performances from some of the teams to write about. The
1st team found a rich vein of form as they completely outplayed HAC who are
normally difficult to beat. The team was in irresistible form and opened the
scoring as early as the 2nd minute through Sean Dardis. He went on to score a
hattrick but his third goal was shear quality as a cross that came over was
volleyed straight into the bottom corner. Lewis Jones kept up his goal a game
ratio with another two and Scott Lewis also banged in one for a very
emphatic win. The only problem on the day was an injury to Jay Jacques who
managed to tread on the ball when poised to score. Lets hope its not too
serious. The 2nds went over to deepest Surrey for their cup tie and came away
with a healthy win that could have been more emphatic. The team dominated
the game and James Wood netted twice to add to his ever growing total.
Unfortunately the team have another cup tie, further away than this one in
Dorking this week, good luck lads! The 3rds had a similar problem that has
cursed them in recent games namely getting enough players to the ground early
enough so that they dont start in a disorganised way. Same problem again and it
cost them the game, one they could have got something from. The 4ths had a
narrow win at Wood Green which was marred by some very poor refereeing from the
home referee. Nonetheless the team battled away to take the 3 points and
maintain their good start to the season.
The 5ths found Ravenscroft 1sts a tough
proposition with their long ball tactics that seem to undo the defence despite
the best efforts of the forwards to score more goals. If they can stop the flow
of goals the team can easily compete at the top end of this league. The 6ths had
to battle to take a 1-1 draw away from Leyton County with both sides having
their opportunities to win the game. However with a few players missing they
should be back to full strength this week. The 7ths also had to battle away to
get 3 points against a determined Queen Mary side that fought back from an early
goal to put us under pressure. Eventually a 3-1 lead was established before
another goal conceded made for a tight finish. The 8ths by contrast made light
work of Latymer with another thumping win. This time Jack Jobber was the goal
hero with four but Mike Butterworth managed a couple to keep up his goal tally.
The 9ths had their first game of the season and had a good competitive game
against Parkonians before conceding two late goals. !st game together so there
is plenty of work to do on the team play.
The A Vets had plenty of the play in
their cup tie against Nottsborough but lack of a recognised striker meant that
they struggled to make or take any of the chances. Missing key players didnt
help and they need to find a striker soon if they are to remain competitive for
the remainder of the season. By comparison the B Vets have founded that by
tightening up their defence they can hold onto a 1-0 lead which they did
confidently. It was another good team performance and they dominated the game
and could have scored even more goals with more luck.
For those players who have yet to surface
if you want to get noticed or move up the sides then you need to get over to
training on a Thursday so now is the time.
- A warning to everyone. Last week
one of our players had a Sat Nav system stolen from his car in the Douglas
Eyre Car Park. Please make sure that anything of value is hidden from view.
This will avoid encouraging the thieves to comeback and try again.
- There are Referees courses and
child protection workshops available if anyone is interested. Please contact
Francis for details.
- The League have signed up to
become a Respect League. This is an initiative launched by the FA to
increase sportsmanship and cut out gamesmanship, cheating and bad behaviour.
As a club we will be asking captains to get all players to sign up to this
by signing a team list, having read the terms of reference. These will be
posted on our website this week and handed out to each team member. Referees
will also be briefing both teams before the game on what he or she expects
during the game. so please support this scheme as it will make playing
football much more enjoyable for all concerned.
