Well after my Guiness surge on
Saturday night I was a little the worse for wear, possibly like a few others of
the 80 that showed up on Saturday. It was a good night but I couldnt tell you
how it ended for the others as I had to leave after middnight. Hopefully
everyone enjoyed themselves which is what it was about. Anyway back to the
football which ended on a high for the year which is not always the case in
these games just before christmas. The 1sts exacted revenge on UCL after the
defeat the previous week with a 4-0 hammering and Lewis Jones starring with a
well deserved and well taken hattrick, I bet he was singing saturday night! The
same goes for Barry Stevens who scored from fully 50 yards into the top corner
to send the team wild with joy, I think! A good tonic for the cup games that lie
ahead into the new year with Minchendenians lying in wait in 2 of them and they
will be a tough nut to crack. The seconds seemed to run out of sparkle in their
game as it petered to a tame draw. More fizz and they might have taken all 3
points. The good news is it did lift them into second place in the league. The
3rds managed to lose again but this time it should have been much closer than
the score suggests. Paul Mitchell guested and showed the class that was not on
offer elsewhere but it couldnt lift them up a gear to get something from the
game, Colin I am sure will be looking for better things from the team in the new
year, bearing in mind they had a great start to the season. The 4ths stood firm
against a good team in Salvatorians to nick a win which takes them into the
quarter finals of the LOB Cup. It should have been more but at 2-0 with us
looking likely to score a third they pulled a goal back to make it a nervy
ending. The 5ths for once played like lions and fully deserved their 3-0 win at
Leyton County. A clean sheet helped the cause but the team played as a team
should and really it could have been many more but even so it was a good way to
end the year, especially as they are still in 2 cups. The 6ths also finished on
a high with a fine win over SAL side Civil Service in the AFA cup who normally
are quite strong at this level. The team played it just right taking their goals
well and giving away very little and also go into the new year in 2 cups and lie
2nd in the league, excellent stuff!
Elsewhere the 7ths took the lead
against Oakhill, a side they lost 9-2 to last time and held that lead until 10
minutes from time. A couple of changes managed to give their opponents enough
chances to win the game comfortably which was a shame give what had happened
before. The B Vets played like it was christmas already and lost tamely to
Brentwoods but it was a good exercise to keep those legs going for the new year
games,
