Volcanic ash and stranded OP players, Estonia, Dominican Republic and
Dubai..take your pick as to which person you feel sorry for! The 1st team steam
ahead to keep up pressure for title hopes, second team return to winning ways
and thirds grab a point at top of the table RBL. 4ths give Mill Hill the bird
and smash 14 past them but the 5ths title ambitions are shattered by 2 draws.
The 6ths are in seventh heaven on pitch one whilst the 7ths grab another win
double to make title a foregone conclusion, the 8ths are humbled b a strong
Edmontonians X1. Finally the over 45s progress to semis of national cup.
The 1st team carried on the good work started the previous week at Meadonians
by winning comfortably in midweek against a weakened Aloysians and then turned
on the style to demolish Hamptonians despite the narrow scoreline. On Wedneday
Robbie Carroll was the goal hero with 4 goals as Aloysians capitulated in the
second half. A 1-0 half time lead was no reward for the missed chances so they
put it right in the second half. Against Hamptonians the football flowed as did
the chances but none were put away until 15 minutes before Half time when Lewis
Jones scored after good build up play between Jay Jacques and Scott Moore. A
further goal was added before the break as Lewis Jones latched onto a through
ball which he lifted over the keeper for 2-0. Second half chances came and went
and a penalty 10 minutes from time could have easily cost them the 3 points but
luckily they held on. Its a big week and we wish them well as first they take on
Albanian in the LOB final under lights at Potters Bar and then a top of the
table clash with Beals at home. Important games indeed. The second team bounced
back from a midweek defeat and were more like their own selves as they easily
beat UCL 3-0. This included a goal from Sam Reeves which he floated over the
keeper from 50 yards, nice one Sam! Title ambitions are out of their hands but
promotion is a strong possibility in the run in. They too are in a final this
Saturday and again we wish them well with plenty of luck. The 3rds went to
undefeated RBL and should have come away with all 3 points but in the end had to
settle for a draw. A penalty from Mark Jones and a lobbed goal from Joe Mariani
should have been enough but a late goal conceded meant 1 point. It still gives
them a record of 7 wins and 2 draws from 9 games since christmas and they could
still claim a promotion spot.
The 4ths went goal crazy after a humiliating cup final defeat to completely
overwhelm Mill Hill County. Six goal Chris Bird certainly made up for a blank
last week as he now stands on 46 for the season and ready to break the 50 goal
barrier. A 14-0 win after the cup defeat shows their intention to end the season
with the title which will surely come down to the last game against Bealonians.
The 5ths title chances were dealt a severe blow after two draws with
Minchendenians. They tried hard but on a bumpy pitch and with little protection
from the referee it was always going to be difficult to get maximum points. Lets
hope they can take out their frustration this week in the cup final against
Parkonians. Good luck to Colin and his team and again lots of luck too. The 6ths
finally found pitch 1 to their liking as they spread the play to take apart Mill
Hill Village 7-0 to cement a third place finish in the league. Nice to see that
Hasan lasisi has made a comeback after injury as he played the the last 10
minutes and managed a goal too. The 7ths went to pork chop hill aka Mill Hill
Village and its sloping pitch and took maximum points for the second time in a
double header. An easy 4-0 win in the first game was a bit tighter in the second
one but all that was required was the 3 points which duly arrived. They too have
a cup final this week and we again wish them well too and any luck that may be
going! The 8ths found the going tough against Edmontonians with a few faces
missing and got trounced 6-1 in the process. It is a shame that having had a
good season it is fizzling out even though they can still get a runners up spot,
so come on you 8ths!
The 9ths put on a good display of football to beat Sedcopians 4-2. It was a
closely fought game but we eventually came out on top to complete their first
win in four games. The A Vets were kicking themselves after the game having
missed several easy chances, hitting the bar from 6 yards and then missing a
penalty before losing out to a weakened PLA side. It could have been so
different if we had taken just one of those opportunities so relegation is still
an issue as we approach those final games. Onto the sunday over 45s who fought
back from a goal down against the run of play to level with a superb goal from
Arnie Howell. Other chances followed and were not taken and then they scored a
second again against the run of play. 2-1 down at the break it was a determined
performance that saw first Andy Gombas equalise from a corner and the Terry
Taylor poked in the winner after the keeper saved well from an Andy Gombas shot.
We held out comfortably till the end to book a semi final place against either
Barnstaple or Pembrokeshire Vets over the weekend of 2 May, if its away we
may stay over. Anyway well done lads and good luck for this week in the Saturday
Over 45s final against Brentwoods
We have a Wednesday final for the first team and four finals on Saturday. I
would welcome anyone who can get to these games and support the teams. It is an
outstanding achievement for the club and lets hope they have sufficient ability
and luck to bring those trophies home.

finals double headers and midweek games: So you know there are no subs
charged for cup finals. The subs can be used for travel requirements or a
drink afterwards. Midweek games full subs are charged and double headers ALL
the players involved pay subs. If 17 players or more are used then they all
contribute. You can change as many players as you like between the games. In
double headers each game is of 60 minutes and each side pays the referee
once.
