Good and indifferent performances from
some teams with those in form suffering setbacks whilst others got themselves
back into winning ways. And so it was with the 1st team as they suffered their
first defeat of the season. In a tight game against undefeated Minchendenians
they had several chances to open the scoring in the first half and then paid the
penalty with one conceded 10 minutes into the second half. A last minute attack
produced a shot that hit the bar and so although on the balance of play a win
was deserved, we came away with nothing but a lesson in how to nick a win. We
will have a chance to gain revenge in a few weeks time in the OB Cup. The 2nd
team had their 3rd trip to Surrey minus their kit. Their player who failed to
show up will be sorted out in due course but it meant a hurried trip to JJB
Sports to buy a full kit. And onto the game which they won in a canter. A
comfortable 6-0 win in the LOB cup means they remain unbeaten in all
competitions, hopefully they will get some draws closer to home as the season
progresses. Well done to Benno and his team for their resilience in the
circumstances. The 3rds found their form finally to record their first win of
the season in the Old Boys Cup at Tenisonians. 1-0 down at half time they came
back strongly in the second half to get a well deserved win and some confidence
for another away day in the cup this week.
The 4ths seem to like the Cups after
another big win in the AFA cup over Carshalton. A competitive first half became
a comfortable win in the second half as goals came a regular intervals with
Chris Bird adding another 2 to his tally, one after a trip in the penalty box
which he stayed up to push the ball past the keeper. The 5ths went 3-0 down
before they came to life in the second half to come back strongly against Lea
valley. 3-0 became 3-2 but a defensive slip allowed the home side to go 4-2 up
before another goal brought them back into the game. Unfortunately they just
couldnt find an equaliser. The 6ths were 1-0 up before Oakhill got their act
together and brushed us aside in the second half. It was a lesson from a side
that has a good passing pedigree and will take some stopping in the league. For
the 6ths it is their 1st defeat of the season and will now need to bounce back
this week in the cup. The 7ths remain undefeated after another home win. Its 5
out of 5 but it means that we wont see them for many weeks in the new year. I
wonder who does these fixtures? Against a resolute Leyton County it took some
time to get a significant lead but in the end it was comfortable as we camped in
their half for most of the game. This week they are away for the first time this
season! The 8ths did bounce back from the previous weeks defeat by coming back
from 2-1 down to win against UCL in the LOB Cup. UCL are top of the league but
the 8ths hit 2 fine goals in the second half, one from a header by Ben Cooney
and another by Jack Jobber was a fine shot from outside the box to help take the
tie. The 9ths were given a fixture against a strong Vets side and whilst they
competed they could make a telling pass to create goal chances. The Vets side
passed the ball well and that is something the team needs to work on if they are
to improve.
The A Vets went into extra time at 1-1
but ran out of steam and lost 5-1 in the Essex Cup. A shame in that we beat this
side 5-0 last year and now fortunes seemed to have reversed. We can only hope
for better things to come. The B Vets also seem to have gone into decline as
they lost in the league for the first time. Normally they would have beaten
Fulbrook but this time they just didnt play well enough on the day. A great
shame after some really good results on the road.

A note about training. We are getting up
to 70 players at training now which is some sort of record. Certainly the 1sts
and 2nds have benefited from them with large numbers turning up and this has shown itself
with results each week. The Thursday night late slot seems to suit most of you
and so with large numbers we will endeavour to get organised early so you all
benefit from the sessions so starting on time will be essential. Thanks to all
of you who turn up as it makes it worth the effort for those who train you...for
nothing.
- The Amateur Football Combination
are now recognised as a Respect League. This is an initiative launched by the FA to
increase sportsmanship and cut out gamesmanship, cheating and bad behaviour.
As a club we will be asking captains to get all players to sign up to this
by signing a team list, having read the terms of reference. These will be
posted on our website this week and handed out to each team member. Referees
will also be briefing both teams before the game on what he or she expects
during the game. so please support this scheme as it will make playing
football much more enjoyable for all concerned.
There are a number of fines owed to
the club for bookings received, can the captains collect them and forward them
to me:
Jon Redding £8, T.Rolt £8, G.Bean £16, M.Fook £8, A.Evans £8, A.Howell £8, D.Chandler £8,
