The 1st team took the honours this week
with the first piece of silverware for the club this season. The Vic Merrett Cup
is played between the winners of the Arthur Dunn and Old Boys cups and we won it
for the first time beating Old Brentwoods comfortably, a lot more than the score
suggests. Our thanks go to Old Brentwoods, not only for staging the match but
for filling in as finalists as Carthusians had pulled out earlier in the week. The team played well in blustery conditions and with better finishing
could have made the score more emphatic. The good form continued into the second
team with another controlled display that was complimented by goals to give the
game the right result. Big test of their credentials this week at Globe Rangers
lets hope they can get off to a flyer! The 3rds suffered from late cryoffs and
no shows which is very disappointing at this stage of the season. It meant a
disorganised start which cost them the game. Second half was much better and
this week they need to get themselves organised in terms of reliable players.
The 4ths had a much tougher game than expected and could only manage a draw
despite having the most of the play and possession. The 5ths felt unlucky too
not to win but had only 11 players for the game due to late withdrawals. The
6ths won their game without getting into second gear. A good performance with
one to go before the league campaign starts. The 7ths had also to contend with
cryoffs that left them short for the start of the game but in the end should
have got something from the game on their second half performance.
The A Vets had a mix and match side again
due to cryoffs but managed to get a decent performance from the team to get a
win and give themselves some confidence for next weeks game at Dunmow. By
contrast the B Vets played a youngish Parkonians 8th team and their fitness and
pace told in the end. Back to the vets games this week!
Finally we had a large number of late
cryoffs and no shows this week. Reliability is the one commodity that any
successful side will always have so those teams that have issues with
individuals must sort themselves out this week as the leagues start to commence.
You cant complain about individuals if you keep picking them after they let you
down, better to sort it out now than let it fester. Last moan, please get those
registration forms and £20 fees to me or your managers this week. I dont want to
be chasing players in November and beyond!!!!
For those players who have yet to surface
if you want to get noticed or move up the sides then you need to get over to
training on a Thursday so now is the time.
- Thanks to John Long who has
secured sponsorship from his company RBS for the second year running. Again
I would ask you to see if you can get sponsorship from your company to help
the club.
- Rule changes for this season mean
that subs will now be collected before the game as we have to pay refs
beforehand and also it avoids players who leave in a hurry forgetting to pay
their subs!
- FOR THIS SEASON, we will be
looking for players to join the club who are RELIABLE above all else. So whovever
you bring to the club make sure they know what it costs and what is expected
of them as a club member.
- WE also need at least one
goalkeeper who is of a standard to play at least 3rd team level, if
you know of someone who fits the bill, let me know.
There are a number of fines owed to
the club for bookings received, can the captains collect them and forward them
to me:
Jon Redding £8, T.Rolt £5, B.Stevens £10, M.ODonoghue £8, G.Bean £16, E.Corten £16, J.Sargeant £23, J.Britton
