MIDWEEK GAMES
Tuesday 22 April
-
4th X1 v Albanian Douglas Eyre KO 6.15pm
-
5th X1 v Albanian Douglas Eyre KO 6.15pm
-
6th X1 v Bealonians Redbridge Sports Centre Forest Road Fairlop KO 6.30pm
Whilst it wasnt the best week for results at
least there was one that stood out. The 1sts kept up the pressure on League
leaders Albanian with another powerful performance to overcome 2nd placed
Bealonians 4-1. It was a superb win given that Beals had their eyes on that
title before the game. Shawn Evans was the starman with all 4 goals. 2-0 up in
the first half, Beals nicked one back and it was all tense till we scored a
couple of goals in quick succession to make the game safe. With Albanian
dropping 2 points it was a good day and we now move into second place. However
we still need some teams to drop points before we can even think of winning any
title so there is still a lot to play for between now and 10 May. The good news
is that Albanian still have to play Meadonians twice and Aloysians away not an
easy set of games for anyone.
The seconds had another nightnare result
against league leaders Egbertians. 4 players form the 3rds failed to appear so
the team was a bit of a mix and match and no match for an in form side. I hope
that this sort of attitude will be a thing of the past when next season arrives
and that cant come too soon! The 4ths held a 3-0 lead before being pegged back
by Mayfield for a draw. It would have been a great morale boost had they taken
all 3 points but all we can do is wish them well for this weeks Cup Final
against Owens. The 5ths found themselves playing a stronger UCL side than normal
as some of their teams had already finished their league program. Anyway we
battled it out for a point which keeps us in the middle of the table. The 6ths
took another 3 points of bottom team Aloysians to give the team some confidence
for the remainder of the season that they can get a high placed finish. The 7ths
though seemed to be going through the motions as they tamely lost 3-2 at
Bealonians, only one more game to play lads! The 8ths were undone by a strong
UCL side who are bottom to lose 5-2 and so look set for a lower table finish
which is not what they expected at the start of the year.
The Vets A had a disappointing cup result in
midweek losing to Runwell on penalties. 2-0 down they came back strongly to 3-2
up but with only 12 players for a final they were always struggling with fitness
and injuries over the 120 minutes. With so many Vets in the club we should
surely have been able to field 14 players for such an occasion. So on Saturday
with only 11 players they struggled again as Ian Greenwood picked up an injury
and they played the rest of the game with 10 men. I just dont understand how
this happens so often even when we have a team spare.... The B Vets seemed to
have lost that determination to win as they lost again against another team near
the bottom. It now looks like they will need one more win to ensure they are not
relegated.

- Next committee meeting Tuesday 29 April
starting 8.00pm at Douglas Eyre. MAKE A NOTE OF THE CHANGE OF DATE. Please make sure your team is represented.
- A note to all those that owe fines, subs and
other monies collected. At the end of the season there will be a letter sent to
the AFA and various leagues detailing the players information and amounts owed.
This is then circulated to all the local leagues and counties and you will not
be able to play for any other club until we are reimbursed, otherwise that club
is held liable. It is not a threat
but a fact so if you dont want to be barred from playing (and it covers ALL
football) and have to sort it out with the F.A., pay up what is owed to the
club now, its a lot easier.
Next Season
Registration forms and joining fees
should be starting to arrive at my home as you will only have less than 3 weeks to
do it by the time you read this. If we dont get the returns we dont run the
teams so it is all in your hands. If you havnt received a form download it from
our website, complete and return with cheque or give it to your Manager or
Captain.
