We lost 3 out of the 4 games played but
the most important one we won and made a bit of history. The 1sts reached the
semi final of the AFA Senior cup for the 1st time since 1988, 21 years ago. We
last reached the final for the only time in 1982 so there is still a chance of
more history to be made. The game started well for us with a goal in 5 minutes
by Warren Coborne but then we allowed them to equalise within a minute and then
had to defend well for the rest of the half. The second half saw us take control
and create many chances before a free kick from Scholsey was met by the head of
Jay Jacques to score the winner with 5 minutes to go. A great team performance
which overall meant we deserved the win. Well done to all the squad with the
semi due on 7 March. It will be against Nottsborough where we play the game at
Old Parkonians, the venue for both semi finals it will be a very tough game so we will
need to be at our best if we are to progress, lets hope so. The others in the
draw are Winchmore Hill v Polytechnic.
Elsewhere we fared less well with the
5ths losing heavily against Suttonians in the Old Boys Cup. Never really in the
game as they played a long ball game which seemed easy for them to score and we
didnt cope too well. Last chance for cup glory comes this week at Academicals,
lets hope for a better performance. The 7ths somehow ended up short of players
when we had loads available and so struggled even so it was an even game for
that but they had a better cutting edge in front of goal. Good games for both
Matt Kelly in goal and Lloyd Hallowell. The A Vets played their game on the 4th
generation astroturf at Leyton Orient but couldnt get the goals their play
deserved and lost narrowly. It means they are now in a relegation battle for the
rest of the season.
OVER 45s Football
A bit of information for the old farts
of the club. At a meeting of the Essex Vets League I spoke to the
meeting regarding the setting up of an over 45s league next year and
surprisingly there were 14 other clubs interested so it could be a likely
starter. If you want to be involved in playing over 45s rather than over 35s
then talk to your captain. If you are not a current player but are interested
then email me and let me know. We are looking for a minimum 18 players for the
squad and if it means we drop a side then we need to know now or if there are
sufficient numbers we can run 3 sides... its up to you. If you also know of
other clubs outside of the league that maybe interested please let me know.
There are a number of fines owed to
the club for bookings received, can the captains collect them and forward them
to me:
A.Bergonzi £20, Rob Jonson £8, James Beazley £16 Jay Abberley
£16, Jon Redding £8, Tom Elgar £16, I.Thomas £8, S.Lawrence £8,
T.Rolt £5, B.Stevens £10, M.ODonoghue £8, J.Sargeant £23, C.Hoy £8,
P.Holland £8, K.Ballard £23, G.Bean £8, C.Bird £23, G.Wotton £8, J.Britton £8,
E.Corten £8
